IFAT in Munich has been the world’s leading trade fair for the management of drinking and domestic water, waste and raw materials for fifty years. It takes place every two years in Munich and each edition is a record compared to the previous one, both in terms of the number of exhibitors and visitors. In the previous edition in 2018, 3.305 exhibitors from 58 countries and over 142.472 visitors from 162 countries took part. The visitor structure was: 27% municipal waste disposal companies, 31% industry, 9% private waste disposal companies, 19% engineering and consulting companies and 14% authorities and associations.
The AHK Romania was present at the time with a delegation of almost 40 members, consisting of representatives of the local authorities, mayors or/and Vice-presidents of county councils, inter-community development associations and private companies operating in the waste management sector.
This year the fair takes place between September 7th and 10th, 2020 and covers an area of 270,000 m2. This is 4% more than two years ago, which is due to the numerous international stands. Compared to previous editions, more European countries will be represented, but also China, Japan, Canada, South Korea, the USA and Russia. As the demand for environmental products and technologies worldwide is very high, IFAT Munich has built up a global interdisciplinary network over the years: IE expo China, IE expo Guangzhou in China, IFAT India, IFAT Eurasia in Turkey and IFAT Africa in South Africa and are therefore an engine for sustainable development that supports the circular economy and actively contributes to climate protection.
In addition to the fact that IFAT is the most important platform for environmental technologies in Europe, many participants pay special attention to the new professional program, which consists in a series of conferences. Participants have the opportunity to discuss interesting topics like: How can sustainable cities be designed and build? What is the circular economy and how is it implemented? The challenges of the future and what technology is required to deliver sustainable solutions? Among the main topics of the event we mention: the future of water, circular economy and resource efficiency, sustainable cities, intelligent units and emission-free products, hazardous substance management and goals for sustainable development.
